Rina Telli was born Catherina Portelli, in Brooklyn N.Y. August 6, 1921. Catherina Portelli took the end of each name and that is how the name Rina Telli was born. She achieved International Renowned Distinction and is known as a True Dramatic Soprano in the Operatic Field. Her voice was quite remarkable, with a range of four octaves, from low A to high C or C sharp.While attending Erasmus High School she occasionally sang in the Glee club. She studied typing and shorthand, but a singing career was her goal. While studying voice, she also began attending the Fashion Design School. Rina Telli first studied with the famous violinist, Vincent Sorey and then coached by, Cesar Sordano, conductor of the Metropolitan Opera Company and Pasquale DeAngelis conductor of the San Carlo Opera Company, with whom she made her debut.Rina Telli has brought great esteem to her profession and to her colleagues. She acknowledged everyone and disregarded no one. She sang with love and feeling that was first taught to her by her father. Rina was also President & Founder of The Cultural Society for the Performing Arts. A non profit organazation to give scholarships to young people in the Cultural Arts field. She also was the first to bring Opera to schools so the children could experience Opera, classical music and acting in a fun way for them to understand and possibly develop a interest in the performing arts.
